


God initiated the relationship, made a promise to His people, and took His end of the bargain quite seriously. Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations ( Deuteronomy 7:9). If Israel followed His commands and “walked in His ways” they would have experienced the fullness of His mercy, blessing, power, and provision ( Deuteronomy 28:9). After all, the nation of Israel had been chosen as God’s covenant people and set apart to be His holy nation.Īs it is written, “for you are a holy people to the Lord your God the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for His personal possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth” ( Deuteronomy 7:6).
